The last episode of Game of Thrones aired a month ago. It feels like the end of an era. Viewers were very disappointed, to say the least, with the latest and final season of GOT.
There were some very big plot holes associated with the final season:
Arya’s skills as a faceless assassin
Arya’s skills as a faceless assassin were not at all utilized. Her slithery movements were shown for like a minute or two in the season, and then there was neither any mention nor any use to her skills.
Bran becomes the king
The one person whose contributions were next to zero in winning the war against the dead was given the title of king. The complete scene felt like a joke like it was some scripted reality show. Moreover, his little adventure in season 6 led to death of then three-eyed raven, Summer(Bran’s dire wolf), leaf and other children of the forest, when night king got his mark on Bran in a vision. Also, it was mentioned various times in the show that the dead can’t pass the wall, but maybe because Night King had a mark on Bran, he could actually walk past it. Not to mention, there was practically no use of Bran’s visions. He could have alerted Dany’s army against Euron Greyjoy’s attack which leads to the death of Rhaegal and Missandie.
Dany going mad
Her character going mad felt quite rushed. There was no proper development arc to this storyline. She has always been the protector of poor and innocent people. Everyone knew it, even Cercie took people of King’s Landing in the Red Keep as she believed Dany would never kill the innocent. But the way she burned down the city with Drogon, even after her enemies surrendered, was unforeseen. She always said that she is a protector of the poor and innocent, but the episode portrayed the opposite.
But there’s another side to this. Viewers had huge expectations with the concluding season. I mean, if you browse through YouTube, you will find a thousand videos, pondering over the tiniest of the details, and giving theories based on the books too. (For those who don’t know, the series is based on a book The Song of ice and fire by George R. R. Martin).
But here’s a catch. When the previous seasons aired, the books played a huge role in the storyline. But the last of the books released end roughly where Season 5-6 ends. The latest installment to the books is yet to come, so the last 2-3 seasons were written by someone else, not the original author.
Hopefully, the books will do justice to the characters, and tie all the loose ends. What was your greatest disappointment in Game of Thrones? If you wrote the ending of “Game of Thrones,” what would it be? Let us know in the comments below.
